In January 2019 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, following surgery for a mastectomy & reconstruction I was given two plastic bags to carry my post-surgical drains around in. In October 2019 I put out an SOS on the Tendring Primary Recycling Facebook page seeking volunteers to help me make 100 drain bottle bags to donate to the local hospital for future patients to use.
I was “Overwhelmed” by the compassion and kindness that I received from the community in response to the campaign and it’s hard to put into words how much the support that the campaign has generated has meant to me, people have been so generous. Although my initial target was 100 (which we smashed) I have now decided that due to the positive response that we have received I am going to keep the Josie-Ann Bags campaign going. My hope is that we can keep a continuous supply of bags at Broomfield Hospital to ensure that all patients who need them have access to them during their recovery. Our hope is that the Josie-Ann bags will provide patients with a safe & discreet place to store their drains, help aid their recovery process, show compassion & care to others in their time of need, as well as being environmentally friendly then the currently used plastic carrier bags |
